Dog Internal Parasites Symptoms - Worms In Faeces, Pot-Bellied, Diarrhea, Weight Loss
Intestinal parasites seldom cause many problems to dogs and their health. But because the most common parasites, roundworm, is a potential health hazard to humans, it is to the best interest of the dog owners to ensure that your dogs are routinely wormed.
Dogs can also act as intermediate hosts for tapeworms that can be pass on to humans. Last but not least, dogs can be infested with the more serious intestinal hookworms, whipworms and microscopic parasites that causes diarrhea.
The most common signs and symptoms of intestinal parasites are act of licking the anal region, or dragging the rear, visible worms in the faeces, pot-bellied appearance, persistent or bloody diarrhea, white grains on rear and loss of weight.
Roundworms symptoms may cause mild vomiting and diarrhea, with curled, round, pink-white worms being passed. Puppies may also acquire these worms while they are still in the mother’s womb.
Tapeworms symptoms are that the abdomen can become distended and the most common signs are that you can find small, dried eggs sacs like rice grains in the hair around the anus. Worms can also be found moving in the faeces.
Hookworms symptoms are severe anaemia and diarrhea. When dogs lie on damp, unclean bedding, the larval stages of these parasites can cause skin irritation, particularly in the toes.
Whipworms symptoms are diarrhea with enough bleeding to produce anaemia, they cause irritation and makes a dog drag its rear along the floor. Symptoms usually occur in young dogs kept in unclean conditions and warm environments.
