Digestive Problems - Dog Constipation Treatment & Home Remedy
Dogs generally suffer lesser from constipation than we humans do. Nevertheless, it is an occasional problem and is also quite disturbing and irritating for them as it is for us.
Constipation may be the results of the anal glands on the either side if the anal opening becoming block or infected. It can be due to mistakenly swallowed large bones in the body, too many cooked bones, or by insufficient fiber in the diet that causes food to be harder to digest. Constipation may also result from an enlarged or constricted lower bowel, or from polyps or tumors in the bowels.
Some of the common signs and symptoms of dog constipation are that the dog would lick or drag its rear on the ground, obvious straining to defecate, the production of thin flattened faeces, long periods between bowel movements, or unwilling maybe unable to empty its bowels at all.
Dog Constipation treatment and remedy would be to add raw vegetables and cereals to your dog’s diet as they would increase the fiber element and help the dog to empty its bowel. You can also add Rhubarb and Frangula bark as an infusion added directly to the diet, both herbs would help serve as effective remedy.
If the dog constipation problem persists and would not go away, consult a vet and your dog anal glands can be manually squeezed empty, but require syringing with antibiotics when infected or abscessed. Bony impaction will require enemas and sometimes anaesthesia and manual evacuation of impacted stool.
