Dog Alopecia Symptoms and Treatments

Dog alopecia is the condition of complete or partial hair loss in any area of the dog skin where hair would normally be found. There are not instant cures for such hair loss although natural remedies can help to promote hair growth on thinning or bald patches.

Dog alopecia may result from a hormonal imbalance, a poor diet, injuries, allergies, immune system diseases, infections, parasites and aging.

Signs and symptoms of alopecia in dogs are that hair loss might be generalized or in patches. And if the balding is bilaterally symmetrical, meaning similar balding pattern on either sides, the cause is likely to be hormonal.

You can try aromatherapy, using rosemary for massage or given via a diffuser, alternatively you can also use any of the combinations – Lavender with Calamus, with Terebinth and Pine, or with Thyme and Cedar are suitable and can be massaged onto affected areas.

Herbal medicine can also be use. Apple cider vinegar may be added to drinking water at the rate of 5ml per 600ml. Dandelion makes a good infusion for canine alopecia. Burdock root oil may also be massaged directly onto the skin, especially if the skin is dry and scurfy.

As at today, there are still not tested and proven remedies for canine alopecia problems.
