Digestive Problems - Dog Vomiting Treatment and Remedy

Dogs are scavengers and will take every chance to eat whenever food is available. It is therefore not surprising to find out that dog vomiting is more common in canines than in all other mammals. Regurgitation is also the normal way a wild bitch would feed her puppies until they can hunt and fend for themselves.

One of the common signs and symptoms of dog digestive disorders are projectile, bloody or painful vomiting, persistent, bloody or explosive diarrhea, constipation, weight loss or excessive weight gain, listlessness and abdominal discomfort.

Simple dog vomiting behavior is common and often not associated with discomfort. Dogs vomit for various reasons like over eating, eating uncommon food like grass, or even traveling in a car and nervousness.

Dog vomiting treatment using home remedy can be done to cure the vomiting symptoms: Stop feeding for up to twenty-four hours and as long as there are no signs of dehydration, ration it’s water intake to small amount of soda water, or ice cubes for eight hours. If vomiting stop, gradually get back to normal feeding routine.

But if a dog experience persistent vomiting with traces of blood, it is very serious! Gastric torsion (bloat), commonly seen in deep chested breeds cause painful vomiting and sudden swelling of the abdomen. Infections such as parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis also cause listlessness and sometimes involve bloody or projectile vomiting of which the stomach contents are ejected with great force. Inflammation of the pancreas (acute pancreatitis) or colon (colitis) both cause pain and vomiting behavior and symptoms.

Severe dog vomiting requires immediate veterinary attention, especially Gastric torsion, is a life threatening illness that needs surgical correction. There are also preventive vaccinations that protect many of the infectious viral diseases such as parvovirus, while bacterial diseases are treated with antibiotics.

Note that if the dog vomit contains traces of blood, this is generally very serious and would be an emergency. You should seek veterinary attention immediately.
