Dog Skin Problems Symptoms - Persistent scratching, licking, Inflammation, Hair Loss

Irritating skin conditions are one of the most common medical problems in dogs. Itchiness and scratching usually begins slightly and such conditions are usually caused by parasites such as fleas. Prolong scratching then damaged the skin, allowing bacteria to multiply.

The common signs and symptoms of dog skin and coat disorders problems are persistent scratching, sudden display of chewing and licking, redness or inflammation, and increased hair loss.

Scratching and chewing can happen with or without inflammation. The itchiness that comes with it are usually the work of parasites such as fleas, although there is a chances of a allergic rash cause by inhaling pollen or allergic to certain shampoo or even plants that the dog has come across. Note that such skin conditions can also be signs and symptoms of kidneys and liver disorder, therefore do not take too lightly of them, as they can be signs of a bigger problem.

Inflammation can be due to allergy, sunburn, or to foreign bodies lodged in the skin, such as grass seeds between the toes, that causes abscesses. With skin infections (pyoderma), bacteria invade the skin surface that becomes red and sometimes moist and oozing (acute moist dermatitis). Bacteria can also breed in between folds of skins and produce lesions (skin-fold pyoderma). Deep infections, such as cellulites, produce hot and painful swellings for the dog.

Hair loss can be cause by fungal infection like ringworms and parasites such as mange mites. Generally, symmetrical hair loss are often results of hormonal imbalance.

Excessive licking are usually signs of a serious dog skin disorder. It can be psychological and result in damages to a dog’s skin (lick dermatitis).

Skin conditions are usually not serious illnesses. Nevertheless, you should seek treatment for your dogs as early as possible once skin disorder is detected to make them feel comfortable.
